A sojourner is one who resides as a foreigner or stranger in an unknown land. God called Abraham out to a place where he was to receive an inheritance. He went out not knowing where he was to go. “By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a foreign land, living in tents with Isaac and Jacob, heirs with him of the same promise.†(Hebrews 11:9) So too today the Lord sends us out as sojourners into this world to claim our inheritance. We go out not knowing where to go, but sure the Lord has promised us victory. The Lord God made an oath to Abraham that his descendants would be as many as the stars of heaven and as innumerable as the grains of sand by the seashore. (Hebrews 11:12) The promise is that we shall inherit all the lands of the earth.
