Excerpt from Chapter 3 : Prophetic Intercession
We have so far highlighted the difference between intercession and just normal prayer. Now, when we move to prophetic intercession, as the phrase suggests it’s more about combining the power of the prophetic with prayer.
I know that generally the prophetic, is a phrase popular within the Pentecostal circles. Many have sat in churches and have a prophet come in and prophecy about cars, houses and ‘hot’ spouses, etc. This has seen the prophetic being diluted to just fairy fairy promises. Many prophecies that have been spoken in churches have never come to pass. There is a reason why, will explain that later. Each year, I have heard in many churches prophecies after prophecies and many of them have not come to pass. If you take note, you will realise each year around about the early part of the year, prophecies are spoken out and majority of those don’t happen.
Many people are so eager to learn about their future and have become so gullible. Unfortunately, many prophets have taken advantage of this. News is awash with situations where people go to a conference and prophets call out people who want prophecies to come forth. There will be two lines, those who can pay $500 and those who can do $1 000. People will stand in the relevant lines, the lower amount will then get a 2-3 minutes prophecy. Those who paid $1 000 will then get a full detailed report, maybe 5- 10 minutes of prophecy. That is searious!!! Call that whatever you may call it, but it is real. This is what’s happening in some of the conferences.
Let’s put the controversy aside. I want to differentiate two things here. There is the office of a prophet and then the prophetic anointing. An ordained prophet takes the office of a prophet and becomes an occupier of the office of the prophet. He or She is then known as a residential prophet of the house or church, etc. Now the prophetic anointing doesn’t depend on an office. Although naturally, any ordained prophet is known to function with the prophetic anointing. The prophetic anointing can flow on any true believer who was baptised in the Holy Ghost.
This can be someone ordinary as it were, sitting in the pews. It can be someone on the pulpit or on stage. Sometimes it can show up whilst you are just talking to someone and suddenly you know what that person is battling or what recently happened. Sometimes you pick things that they are not telling you and then they wonder how you found out.
I was talking to this lady who was sharing the property that I was renting a few years ago. As we talked, the prophetic anointing kicked in and I said some things she hadn’t told me and later when the conversation ended I closed the door and went back in my room. We were talking right at the front door; it was a good conversation if I may add. Few minutes later, I heard a knock on the door, I thought she left something. To my surprise, she then said you said ‘abc’ in reference to some things that came in the earlier conversation. “I never told you that, how did you know???”. I could see the curiosity in her ears, I just laughed it off and I said I know. She was gob smacked. Nobody had told me anything, it’s just that as we were talking I happened to have paid attention to the Holy Spirit.
