Chapter 9
THE OBAMA FACTOR
Recently, with the election of Barack Obama and a veto-proof majority in both houses of Congress, America today, more than ever, can be seen as a possible major participant in end-time events.
Why do I say that? Because Obama, a committed leftist, was elected President of the U.S. in January 2009. Since Obama assumed office, in the first six months of his term, America has taken a radical turn to the left. Although it cannot yet be determined how far to the left the new Administration may go, some critics are already calling it a form of socialism. And although departing President George W. Bush made decisions late in his term in conjunction with the incoming Obama administration, to add a trillion dollars to the national debt to “stave off a possible depression”, yet, Obama has tripled that original amount to the tune of a 9 trillion dollar increase in the debt in the next ten years.
President Obama has either changed or is attempting to change many laws relating to a wide spectrum of national policies. While waging his campaign for President, Obama repeatedly used the word “change” as the rallying cry for his followers, while continuously referring to the outgoing Bush administration as “uncaring” and “out of touch”. He accuses Bush at every opportunity of destroying America’s image in the world, bringing the economy to the point of collapse and governing from principles that no longer work in today’s world.
Obama had “new ideas” on a myriad of policy issues, including climate change (he believes in it wholeheartedly); oil production (he was for eliminating dependence on fossil fuels such as oil and coal.); foreign policy (he believes the Bush administration by its policies and relationships has destroyed America’s standing in the eyes of the world); he reiterated again and again, when he became President he would restore America’s image both with her friends and with her enemies. So far his attempts to fulfill this promise have been less than dramatic.
