Introduction Excerpt …Throughout the years, there have also been times when I have spoken the words Boy, I am at the end of my rope and it is during these times that prayer also becomes a top priority. In addition, I will be honest and share that there have been moments in my life that depression has gripped me and all that I can do during these times is to fall on my knees and go before the Lord in prayer just to give me the strength to make it throughout the remainder of the day. It is during these moments of prayer, that God clearly whispers in my ears the three words: Grip the Rope. In other words, God is reminding me to hold on and in spite of my circumstances; I have to Grip the Rope and to press on anyhow. Although I go in prayer expecting immediate answers and relief to my concerns, I already understand and have learned through many hard knocks in life that God always knows what is best for me; even if I am disheartened with His answer. It is like when I was in labor with my daughter, no matter how much I wanted her to be born quickly after the labor pains began, this sure did not even happen. She was born after being in excruciating labor pains for about eighteen hours. I prayed, prayed and prayed some more during labor, but my daughter was born on the day God picked out and not on the day when the labor pains started. Even when experiencing tough times, I have made it a priority to tell God, “thank you” for all of the blessings He has bestowed upon my daughter and me in spite of the difficulties that I sometimes have to endure. Let me add that although my daughter is now grown with children of her own, my “maternal” role will never end. It just changed! The idea of the book Grip the Rope: Prayers for Single Mothers was birthed during one of these times in prayer and as a result of the positive feedback I received from readers about the sample prayers in my first book, A Single Woman’s Parenting Journey: Survival Tidbits. The rest is history! Re-reading and modifying this book to publish in an E-book format has been a blessing for me and I am thankful that I am able to share it with you.
