FACING OPPOSITION & REJECTION ____________________________________________________ From: Jayd Williams Date: October, 2016 To: FJHS Ministries ____________________________________________________ Dear Pastors Tim & Kelli, First of all, I am so glad you gave us your email address. I’m glad you visited our school today too. When you asked me if everything was going well, I didn’t tell you everything. School started off nice. I made new friends and connected with other people from our church group. There is one guy from our church who drives me CRAZY! The first week of school Ty asked why do I believe in God and why am I always carrying my bible. He even had the nerve to ask me how I know God cares. I got so mad and it seems like every day he pokes fun at me about being a Christian. In one of my classes I have a couple of Christian friends who help me defend my point of view, but we all end up yelling at each other in the middle of a math lesson. Our teacher gets frustrated and I think she picks on me because I am a Christian. She always addresses me when the yelling starts, but Ty is the one who starts it. One day she asked us Christian kids “Why would he want to serve your God when you’re always yelling at him?” I couldn’t believe she said that. She finally told us her “mercy meter” was broken and any more outbursts would result in disciplinary action for all involved. It’s not fair that Ty gets to aggravate us like that and then we get in trouble. Last week I asked to speak to Mrs. Greves about it after class. She listened to my thoughts, smiled and said “Instead of trying to convince Ty with your words, try showing by your actions. Christ didn’t defend his ministry. He lived it and others followed.” It’s Sunday night and I am getting ready for the week. I am praying about how to act in front of Ty now. Maybe Mrs. Greves is right. I do need to be different. Thank you again for being there for us. Have a good week. Your friend in Christ Your friend for life Jayd ____________________________________________________ From: FJHS Ministries Date: October, 2016 Reply to Jayd Williams ____________________________________________________ Hey Jayd, It sounds like your school year has a great start. We know you may not feel that way, but trust us, you’re in a good place right now. We’re sending you a list of scriptures that might encourage you as you make your way through this journey at school. Your teacher is right, by the way. We love you and will continue to pray that the Spirit of the Lord rest upon you, and that you will have the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord. And that your delight shall be in the fear of the Lord (Isaiah 11:2 & 3). Proverbs 15:1 Galatians 6:9 2 Thessalonians 3:3 Proverbs 3:5 & 6 Keep in touch. - P T & K, FJHS ministries Reflection: Jayd appears to be frustrated with her situation at school and feels she needs to defend her choice to believe. Can you think of a time when you felt the need to defend your choice to believe? ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Do you know of other scriptures that might be helpful when others don’t understand you? ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Prayer: Father in Heaven, please teach me how to live before others so they will want to know You. Amen.
