In Sync
Since the purchase of an iPhone, I have had to learn a lot of new technical words. One thing I was told was that my phone needed syncing on a regular basis. I was clueless.
But I learned.
My iPhone came with accessories. One of them was a cord with plugs on each end. This was to be used for my syncing. One end was plugged into my iPhone, the other end into my computer. And then they talked to each other. This allowed me to keep my iPhone updated with both software upgrades and any changes I might have made in my contacts, photos, etc. I would watch the computer screen as this transpired. It would keep me informed of exactly what was being transmitted.
Last fall, I made the magic connection between my computer and my iPhone. Within seconds the words came up on my screen. Sync is complete. Since it had occurred so quickly, I had my doubts, but unplugged my phone and hurried on my way. This scenario was repeated the next few times I synced.
But I began to notice that information entered in one device was not being transferred to the other. There was a malfunction in my sync. I would have to turn to Apple Care for answers.
Then came a special service at my church. Since I am in choir, I would be at the church for both services.
The pastor spoke of the Old Testament and God’s way of communicating with the human race back then. God used prophets to speak to men for Him. As the sermon continued, the pastor explained that the priests were used to speak to God for mankind. To conclude his sermon, we were told that for mankind today, Jesus does both.
As I climbed the steps to the risers to join the choir in singing the last song, my mind was still on the sermon. I felt like I had missed something important. And so I sat through the second service. I began looking for a pencil and paper so I could take notes, when I remembered (again) that I had an iPhone. It has a place for notes. Duh!
As the pastor repeated his thoughts about the prophets, priests and now Jesus, it all clicked.
Jesus is what keeps us in sync. If we stay plugged in, we are in constant contact with the source of our program. We can talk to Him and know that He listens. And then it is our turn to upgrade from Him. We plug into the Bible, sermons, Christian music and just alone time with Him. He is far better than Apple Care.
It was a very timely message for me. I knew I was out of sync. I put in an emergency call to my Service Provider. He had not taken the evening off. Soon I was back in sync.
“Then when you call, the LORD will answer.
‘Yes, I am here,’ He will quickly reply.†Isaiah 58:9 (NLT)
