When reading Genesis chapter 9, respecting the doings of Noah after the flood and what befell him, have you ever asked yourself why Moses, the writer of Genesis, twice makes the interjectory statement that Ham is the father of Canaan?
Genesis 9:18 And the sons of Noah, that went forth of the ark, were Shem, and Ham, and Japheth: and Ham is the father of Canaan.
Genesis 9:22 And Ham, the father of Canaan, saw the nakedness of his father, and told his two brethren without.
In my early years of reading the Holy Bible I always figured that this statement was more about Canaan than Ham, in that the Canaanites featured so heavily in the early history of the Israelites, but no; this is more about Ham than Canaan. I'd known for some time, like some of you doubtless have, that not all is what it seems with verse 22, but I had to know why Moses interjected this statement here.
