book excerpt
“You can’t judge a book by its cover!” The words may have lost their meaning. Everyone knows appearances are deceptive, yet they continue to be a constant force on our sensibilities. To distinguish true from not-so-true takes understanding.
One of the wisest men God placed on earth began a book of Proverbs by explaining its purpose.
To know wisdom and instruction, To perceive the words of understanding, To receive the instruction of wisdom, Justice, judgment, and equity; To give prudence to the simple, To the young man knowledge and discretion. (Proverbs 1:2-4)
In Proverbs 8 verses 3 and 4, Solomon tells us that wisdom “cries out by the gates, at the entry of the city, At the entrance of the doors: To you, O men, I call, And my voice is to the sons of men.” Needless to say, his love for truth is the heart of sound judgment.
I would like to introduce you to evidence entrenched in nature and our own reality to make a case for God. There are those who deny such as a divine creator. However, there are fundamental facts unexplained by anything other than a power and intelligence superior to our own.
The first indicator is obvious. Only nothing can come from nothing. You might reply, “That does not explain God’s existence.” That is true, but there remains something extremely large we have not yet apprehended.
Entropy: 2nd Law of Thermal Dynamics
Merriam-Webster’s Online Dictionary defines entropy as “the degradation of the matter and energy in the universe to an ultimate state of inert uniformity” and “a process of degradation or running down or a trend to disorder”.
The Second Law of Thermal dynamics is not a theory like evolution or the big bang. It is superior to theory because it is an established unchanging law of the universe. To put this in the simplest possible expression: all energy in the universe naturally moves toward disorder. In other words, it is scientifically impossible for life to begin without something or someone outside of our known reality to make it happen. If you think it through, the only possible conclusion is for a supernatural life form to exist before our universe could have been more than a chaotic blob.
Intelligent Design
Next, consider Intelligent Design. If it were possible for a living cell to spontaneously emerge through an eternity of time and chance, there is no way it would have had the intricate intelligent design required for reproduction. Not only to reproduce once, but to continue and to evolve into more complex structures with nothing to guide it. That is nonsense.
Awareness
If we lived before advanced science, we would not know the Second Law of Thermal Dynamics, Entropy, or the complexities in reproduction. However, know this. Biological creatures should only look like they are aware. That’s the bomb. It is profound enough to believe it is why the Apostle Paul wrote:
For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse… (Romans 1:20)
God is real.
Bearing in mind He is our superior, I do not believe we are without hope. Notice how this is made known to us. It is simple enough for a child to understand. All that can be said is, “Just look at this”. With the basic light bulb in our brains to tell us there is a God, the evidence is that we have a light bulb to begin with.
