My wife, Bonnie, prayed for ten years for God to deliver her from cigarettes. She tried everything from patches to gum. Nothing worked. Then she read this manuscript. She asked the Lord to show her what to fast from. She was also a huge coffee drinker. Coffee and cigarettes went hand in hand for her. It kept coming up from the Lord to fast from coffee but she kept ignoring it. The Lord wanted her to train her flesh to obey her. You can see, perhaps, that fasting is not a biblical weightloss program.
Fasting is and always has been a powerful tool that breaks bondages
and addictions in our lives. It allows us to bring our soul into
submission. If we lust, it is usually our flesh opposing the will of God.
This fact did not change in the new covenant. If we want our addictions
(lusts) to be removed from our lives we must first want them to be
removed. Winners do not talk like losers. The final part of this book
will deal more heavily with the use of our tongues.
