Throughout the Bible, the role of missions can be seen in God's plan to redeem the world. Missions is not just about proclaiming the gospel or about winning and converting souls. Missions involves meeting the needs of the people, just as Christ meets the physical needs of the multitude as He brings the reality of the God's Kingdom to them (Matthew 14:19-21).
Helping local congregations understand the gospel in their own context is important. We should learn to recognize the different customs of the different cultures so as not to impose on new converts our own customs, and deny them the right to make their own decisions.
The Great Commission is an on-going task of spiritual formation and discipleship. We must constantly be aware that when we serve God in spiritual services or in ministries, as layman or missionaries, locally or overseas, not to be caught up in the busyness of things, in superficiality, or hurried routine, but to conscientiously serve the LORD to train the young in faith in the knowledge of self and God, through meditation and leading of the Spirit, in transforming the world for the LORD.
