Avoid taking the B Vitamins if you have the following medical conditions: 1. Acute lymphoblastic leukemia Patients with acute lymphoblastic leukemia on methotrexate should also avoid folic acid supplements as they may reduce the efficacy of their treatment. 2. Leber’s disease Patients with Leber’s disease should avoid vitamin B12 supplements as it they may develop blindness. Avoid taking the B Vitamins if you are taking the following medications: 1. Insulin Patients taking insulin and vitamin B3 or niacin supplements may need to have their doses increased as the amount of sugar in their blood and urine may increase. 2. Oral diabetic medications Patients taking oral diabetic medications and vitamin B3 or niacin supplements may need to have their doses increased as the amount of sugar in their blood and urine may increase. 3. Phenytoin Patients on the seizure medication phenytoin should avoid taking high dose folic acid or vitamin B9 supplements as they can provoke seizures. 4. Phenobarbital Patients on the seizure medication phenobarbital should avoid taking high dose folic acid or vitamin B9 supplements as they can provoke seizures.
