    book excerpt

    Battle-Starfish Galactic

    A lunar legend chronicles that
    Once upon the moon,
A house comprised of lunar rock,
    Was built upon a dune.
The dune was by Moon River,
    Which flowed, a mile wide,
    To the Sea of Tranquility,
    Drawn by the daily tide.

Inside the house of barren rock
    A lunar fellow dwelt,
Who nightly cracked his moon roof
    To view Orion’s belt.
    The locals called him Houston
And he was prone to weep
    'Cause Houston had a problem—
    At night he couldn’t sleep.

    Fishing was the commerce, and
    An export from the moon—
Starfish were caught within the Sea,
    Then shipped off to Neptune.
    On Neptune, flambéed starfish was
    A savory delight.
    But the starfish were elusive
And were only caught at night.

    Two lunar factions fought over
    The starfish fishing rights,
    Faction A and Faction B
    Kept Houston up at night.
    Their constant fighting halted
    Starfish exports to Neptune.
And the conflict worsened, leaving Houston
    Sleepless on the moon.

    The lunar weapon residue
    From starfish fighting wars
    Had left a toxic nebula...
