Chapter 11 – A Miracle – The Power of Prayer
“Early one afternoon, that summer, we heard a scream followed by a thump; it sounded like someone had fallen. Bola was in her room and Sam and I were watching telly downstairs. We ran upstairs to Bola’s room and found her stretched out on the floor. She had passed out and was bleeding. We immediately began to pray and the Lord said, ‘Call an ambulance immediately, do not panic, just prophesy that the baby will not die but live.’ So we did as we were told, and began to prophesy over her till the paramedics arrived.
“When the paramedics arrived, Bola was carried into the ambulance and taken to the hospital. Uncle John was at work in the same hospital, so we had to call him to let him know what had happened, we didn’t want him finding out by seeing his wife being brought into the E.R. on a stretcher. Sam phoned to let him know and we drove down to the hospital.
“It was mid-August and Bola was about five months pregnant. I wasn’t sure what was happening and Sam and I prayed all the way to the hospital. Bola was already in an examination room by the time we got there, we weren’t allowed to see her. Uncle John was with her, so we just waited in the lounge. It was one of the longest waits of my life, I found myself bargaining with God, asking Him to save her and the baby. Then I remembered the prayer Bola’s parents taught us, ‘Affliction shall not arise the second time’, and Sam and I began to pray against every plan of the enemy, we pled the blood of Jesus against every plan of the enemy, against every spirit that wanted to steal Bola’s joy. We declared the Word of God over that baby and its mother. We prayed in tongues for a while and both of us suddenly started to pray against miscarriage, we kept on saying, ‘Bola you will not cast your young, the Lord will remove sickness from the midst of thee in Jesus’ name’. I didn’t know that those were scriptures, Sam and I just kept on saying those words and then I heard the words ‘placenta previa’ and I immediately prayed against it. We then praised God for bringing His Word concerning Bola and her baby to past, and thanked Him for answering our prayers and putting the enemy to shame.
“Almost two hours after we got to the hospital, Uncle John came out. He looked exhausted. ‘Bola and the baby are fine,’ he said. Those words were like music to my ears. I jumped for joy and we had a group hug. We were all so thankful to God. Uncle John said it was a divine intervention, the doctor examining her had already suggested removing the baby because they could no longer hear its heartbeat and Bola was in danger as well. He went to prepare for theatre, but by the time he got back, things had miraculously improved, the baby’s heart rate could now be seen and heard on the monitor, and Bola was responding well too. We knew it was our prayers, we were declaring the Word of God at the time the doctor was preparing for surgery, and God turned things around in no time at all. Uncle John said Bola had a high grade of placenta previa and it was quite dangerous for her and the baby, but after their vital signs improved, the doctor did a final examination of the placenta and it had repositioned itself correctly. It was amazing; Sam and I told Uncle John what had happened when we were praying, how the Holy Spirit directed us in prayers.
“I was so grateful to God for not allowing sorrow into our home. I was grateful that Bola’s parents had taught us how to pray with faith, power and authority. Sam and I knew that we were now on another level in our walk with God, and that we had to study the word and pray more too.
