With the passing of the seasons of my life I have found that each not only has physical, emotional and financial needs which change, but each has spiritual needs that change also. Included in these changes has been an inner calling to seek and to, on occasion, move on. I have always understood "church" to be not only the denominational institution but in the greater sense, church for me is the body of believers. Romans 12:4-5 states, “For as we have many members in one body and all members have not the same office: So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another.” The church is the collective group of sinners who are forgiven by grace and not of their own works. In Ephesians 2:8-9 we are told “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” Not of works, not of deeds, not of church membership. Church for me is and always will be the people for whom God so loved the world that he sent his only begotten son that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life, John 3:16. This verse is well known is sporting arenas. Whether in the community church or worship center, in my personal life, in the workplace, the sporting arena or on the mission fields this is “church” to me.
