PREFACE The Bible is without question the most intriguing and most read book in all the world, and though it contains all the great knowledge of God and the world He created, we still struggle for understanding of God's purpose and ultimate plan for humanity. I have attended church all my life and have learned all the great Bible stories from the flood of Noah to David and Goliath. I was taught the life of Jesus and the saving grace given to us through the shedding of His blood on the cross. I understand that we are all sinners in need of redemption and that Jesus Christ is the only way. What I was never really taught in church, was the actual historical account of the Kingdom of Israel as the Bible records it. The most Old Testament history I was given were a few stories from Genesis, the Exodus from Egypt, and the events that led up to entering the Promised Land of Caanan. Otherwise it was just traditional stories like Jonah and the whale and Daniel in the lion's den. I was left with very little information about the kings of Israel and the fate that became them. As the Spirit worked in my life I became more interested in learning this history and the reason for a northern kingdom of Israel and a southern kingdom of Judah. I had never understood why Israel was separated into two nations instead of just being one. I also became interested in their exile from the mountains of Israel, the re-gathering that was prophesied, and how that relates to the salvation of the Gentiles. As I looked at these questions it became apparent to me how to answer them. I needed to stop looking at the Bible as a group of scriptures and start viewing it as a book with a story, and the best way to understand a story is to start at the beginning and work toward the end. Too many times we hop and skip our way around the Bible looking for answers while forgetting that reading any other book in this way would only bring about confusion and misunderstanding. So, as I took my journey through the pages of the Bible I began to uncover the most interesting story I have ever read and discovered the most incredible revelation about the full identity of our Lord Jesus Christ. I discovered this really is the greatest story ever told and a true one at that. It is a fantastic story about marriage and the unsurpassing love of God. And just as any other good love story, it is full of jealousy, hatred, betrayal, and revenge that is overcome by an undying faithfulness and a beautiful reconciliation between lovers. What is shown in this book gives way to a perfect flow of understanding into what God has accomplished through the sending of His only begotten Son.
